All MFHS new recruits, current statewide humane agents and investigators are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of online training and pass the coursework. All new recruits must complete a minimum of 3 months field training and pass an exam. All agents are required to continue education/training via the courses offered to them throughout the year. All agents are required to review Minnesota State and Federal Animal Welfare Laws regularly. Statewide Humane Agents are typically required to have at least 3 years field experience and/or animal welfare experience. Investigators are required to complete an additional 20 hours of online training, pass all coursework. Investigators typically have a minimum of 5 years professional field experience and are well versed in animal welfare laws.
We are continuing to develop training and offer webinars specifically designed for Minnesota Law Enforcement, current appointed MFHS Statewide Humane Agents and new recruits. Some of the one hour sessions that are offered may provide 1 hour of continuing education credit to those who qualify.
When available, dates and times for training webinars will be posted here or on our Minnesota Federated Humane Societies Facebook page. Invitations to register for the webinars can be emailed to Minnesota law enforcement and MFHS statewide humane agents at least 2 weeks in advance and/or posted in the MFHS SHA communications workspace. Register early to help ensure you get a seat as space may be limited.
